Weddings don’t have to be just black & white or green & white or any single color. They can be vibrant, full of color and still be an elegant, high-end design. The core goal of wedding design should be to tell your love story. That means choosing details, a color palette and an overall look that feels like a reflection of you as a couple. One of the most repeated phrases I share with my couples is that no one should walk into your wedding and wonder who had a hand in bringing everything to life. Your guests should be able to walk in and go “Yes, this looks just like *insert your names*.”
So, if you want to add color into your wedding day, how do you go about it? Well, there’s three main ways I will share with you today. You can do this through florals, linens or an outright celebration of maximalism.

The most important thing to remember when bringing in color through florals is to choose how intense you want that color to appear. Are you wanting something more muted, super vibrant or a soft pastel? Find that level and balance, then start choosing the style of florals you want. You can go garden-style (think bridgerton), modern and minimalist or small pops with greenery.
No matter what intensity or what style, if you’re looking for the florals to be the focal point of your color, keep your linens and place settings neutral. You can incorporate some colored linens on things like the cocktail tables and specialty tables (cake table or welcome table), but on your main guest tables it’s best to keep those in a champagne, ivory or wedding white.
Looking for color in an impactful way that is a little outside of the norm? Bring in that color with specialty linens. I love choosing a primary color and pulling that into a wedding design that showcases colored linens.
For Lynley and Wes’s wedding, we chose to do a velvet hunter green linen that complimented their modern fall wedding design. It was the perfect addition to elevate this from a classic green, white and tan wedding to a truly one-of-a-kind look for the two of them.
So maybe you’re looking at those first two options and thinking that it’s not enough color for you. If that’s you, I’m happy to share that there is a bold and beautiful third option — lean all the way in. Bring that color in not just through isolated details like the florals or linens alone. Take it all a step further and make your wedding design a celebration of color in every area.
When making your wedding a true color celebration, the most important tip I have it to make sure all the details call back to each other. If you’re choosing to do a vibrant yellow flower, do a vibrant yellow napkin. If you want to do a toile print linen, choose an element from the linen to be in your menu stationary. The more you lean in, the better it is. The only way you can go wrong is if you don’t fully commit.
In conclusion, no matter how you decided to make your wedding incorporate color, make sure it’s a reflection of your story and personality. Anything that you do that feels unnatural to you will feel unnatural to your guests. So, find your intensity, your desired places to showcase the color and make it happen.
